āļø My review:
This story started off fun and interesting. It was full of nostalgia for the early 2000s and it was easy to get into. The references to the time did get a little repetitive for me, although I can see why it would be fun to reminisce about all the music and the early days of the internet. At some points it felt like the author was just throwing references for no purpose other than to say "hey, remember this thing?"
At about the 50% mark, I started wondering where the story could possibly be going. It was getting repetitive and a little Scooby-Doo ish? Not sure how else to put that lol. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not exactly what I was looking for in this story either. As my friend Alana said, this story was "literally haunted chain mail."
I felt that the majority of this story could've been solved had Piper spoken up about some of the events she witnessed. It could have led to everyone working together to solve the problem as opposed to all the fighting and threats we got toward the end.
I was ready to DNF by about 90% because the resolution felt really juvenile and silly to me, but I'm glad I read through the epilogue. The very very end was at least good enough for me to bump it up to 2 stars instead of the 1 star I had anticipated leaving.
Overall, it wasn't terrible, things just got a little silly and this was a little more lighthearted than I had expected.
